A large new rotary transfer boring and tapping machine had been ordered, to provide the company with additional machining capacity for small precision aluminium die cast components, required for later assembly into their range of pneumatic equipment control products.

The pass height of the machining centre was too high for any operator standing at floor level and SAXON were asked by Norgren Production Engineers to assist in providing a simple cost effective means of materials handling, with safety factors uppermost.

A SAXON light duty feed and stacking system was specified, utilising two 1,000kg double scissor lifts, sited on adjacent sides of centrally positioned access steps and work platform, providing a safe, stable method of raising pallet loads of stacked component work trays, to a comfortable feed and subsequent stack height position to suit the operator.

A safety trip frame is fitted under all sides of the lift platform and the work station smooth panel sided to avoid trapping points. Semi-automatic controls raise and lower the lifts in unison.

Over-ride and reset functions are also included in the system.
