Saxon Engineers were asked to provide a solution for a vehicle loading problem the company was experiencing when stuffing 20’ 0” and 40’ 0” shipping containers with pallets of special purpose non-ferrous material.

It was necessary to stack the pallets to the container roof in order to achieve the maximum pay-load, and a level approach to the container floor level had to be achieved.

A further problem arose when it was established that the vehicles had to be weighed within commercial limits and that either container could be fully loaded to its 40 tonne capacity, resulting in a high degree of off-set loading conditions on the lorry trailer.

A Saxon 40 tonne capacity hydraulic tandem scissor driven lift platform 18 M long x 3.25 M wide x 3 M travel, designed to accept off-set loading conditions was specified, and fitted with hydraulic actuated shot bolts to provide a safe, stable, repeatable level, lift platform on to which load cells could be mounted, using Board of Trade Certified components, to comply with the required weighing accuracy of the empty and loaded containers.

The hydraulic platform shot bolts deploy into lock housings mounted into the lift shaft walls, and are electro-proof signalled, deployed and retracted.

The shot bolts and load weighing cells can be seen in the photograph.
