Leading architects, the Seymour Harris Partnership, invited Saxon Lifts to submit proposals for a disabled person lift to be included in the superb library complex they had been commissioned to design and build for this top public school.

The lift had to serve three levels from the half-landing entrance foyer, and be integrated into the twin staircase. The architect responsible specifically requested that the lift should be of aesthetic appearance, quiet in operation, and did not project above the upper level balustrade height.

The total lift travel exceeded 2000mm, and regulations required that the lift shaft extend 2500mm above the upper floor level. It was necessary for the client to obtain special dispensation from the H.S.E. to reduce the height to the 1100mm requested.

The dispensation was granted, provided the lift automatically returned and was maintained at the upper level after each use.

The triple scissor lift mechanism, running in a slimline close tolerance shaft fitted with smoke-grey toughened glass panels, provided an attractive appearance which complied with the brief. The lift car is open-thro, key switch operated, and silent in use.
